New resources to support student engagement in WA day

MY WA provides opportunities for primary schools and their communities to engage in a range of new and innovative programs focusing on the Western Australian community and what it means to be a Western Australian.  A range of culturally contextual teaching and learning resources have been developed to support schools and their communities.

MY WA resources include:

• units of work for the Western Australian Curriculum learning areas: The Arts; English; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Science; and
• story books in Aboriginal English.

Teachers are encouraged to explore these resources and use them with their students to show how culture and experience shape the learning of each student and in turn enable them to be responsive to, welcoming and supportive of all cultures.

National Reconciliation Week 2016 begins Today Australians across the nation are kicking off National Reconciliation Week (NRW) celebrations - bringing reconciliation to life in businesses, schools and communities.  These activities and events show the commitment of Australians to understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures and building respectful relationships.  We know many of you already have NRW plans in place, but with hundreds of events being held Australia-wide there are many more opportunities to get involved.
